Frequently asked questions
A number of civil society Websites relating to migration and development already exist. How is MigrationAndDevelopment.net different?
MigrationAndDevelopment.net fills a distinct niche in currently existing civil society resources relating to migration and development by placing a particular emphasis not only on the development aspects, which are frequently trumped by discussions leaning more heavily towards the migration side, but also on the distinct role and perspective of faith-based organisations within related processes and projects.
How can I submit my organisation's documents to the site?
Civil society organisations are warmly welcomed to submit documents, images and upcoming event information directly to submissions@MigrationAndDevelopment.net. All submissions must be received in one of the following formats: .doc, .pdf or .jpeg and in either English, French or Spanish. All documents will maintain their rightful accreditation to the original author(s) and organisation and, so long as the content is consistent with the site's objective to emphasise human rights and dignity, will be posted in the language in which it was received. Please see our submission guidelines for further details.
We are planning an event related to migration and development. Can this site help us publicise it?
Yes! MigrationAndDevelopment.net maintains a calendar of relevant regional and international events and encourages greater civil society participation in bringing actionable, field-based, faith and human dignity perspectives to these debates.
To suggest an event for inclusion in the calendar, please submit the following information to: events@MigrationAndDevelopment.net, with as much advance notice as possible:
- complete event title
- complete name(s) of sponsoring organisation(s)
- event date
- event location
- brief event description
- relevant Website, if applicable
- event contact information
Following any conference or event, we encourage organisations to consider submitting background documents, statements and any other relevant material to the site.
How does Migration & Development.net ensure the quality, relevancy, and legitimacy of the documents submitted to this forum?
All submissions to the site will be reviewed prior to posting in order to ensure the quality of the material and coherence with the site's commitment to providing a voice to faith-based actors and civil society, enhancing the accessibility of human rights-oriented research and promoting rights-based approaches. Accepted material will generally do one or more of the following:
- Express a policy/advocacy and/or faith-based position on migration and development issues
- Inform on recent or upcoming activities and events
- Describe lessons learned and/or the overall experience of a particular region-specific project or initiative, including that of migrants as primary actors in development
- Encourage and provide opportunities for greater collaboration among relevant migration and development actors, notably faith-based organisations and civil society actors more broadly
- Analyse the results of case studies, field reports or academic research
- Debate various approaches to migration and development on regional and/or global levels
- Provide support for practical NGO advocacy and operational initiatives
Is it possible to send a document via regular post?
We prefer to receive all materials via email to submissions@MigrationAndDevelopment.net. If this is not possible, however, you may also fax them to +41 22 919 10 48 or send them by regular post to:
